Cocoa makes obese mice healthier, according to new research from Penn State University.

Joshua Lambert, the lead of the study and a professor of food science at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, says: “Although its high sugar and fat content is often thought of as a pleasure food; Epidemiological and human intervention studies suggest that chocolate consumption is linked to a reduced risk of cardio-metabolic disease, including stroke, coronary heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. It therefore seemed reasonable to investigate whether cocoa consumption had an effect on non-alcohol-related fatty liver disease, which is commonly associated with obesity in humans.

Lambert points out that the research has several strengths. In the study, a commercially available cocoa product was used at a “physiologically accessible dose”; that is, the equivalent of the dose used can be repeated by other people. “When we do the calculations, there are 10 tablespoons of cocoa powder a day,” says Lambert.

In this study, the researchers found that high-fat-fed obese mice fed a diet supplemented with 80 mg of cocoa powder per gram of food for eight weeks; They examined changes in fatty liver disease, signs of oxidative stress, antioxidant response, and cell damage.

Recently Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry In the findings published in the paper, the researchers noted that mice given cocoa gained weight 21% slower and had lower spleen weight (a lower indicator of inflammation) than mice fed high fat. At the end of the study, it was found that the livers of mice on the cocoa powder-supplemented diet had 28% lower fat than the other group. In addition, the oxidative stress level in the mice given cocoa was 56% lower and the DNA damage in their livers was 75% lower.

According to the researchers, when mice consume cocoa as part of their diet, the ingredients in the cocoa powder inhibit the digestion of the fat. When fat cannot be absorbed, it passes through the digestive system. A similar process may occur in humans.

Jeff Mulhollem / Penn State University. Ç: O.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

ソースサイト：nichiani

Source: アニヲタβ

Photo: thecakeschool / Pixabay Cocoa powder, which is a popular food ingredient mostly used in chocolate produ … 続きを読む »

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[1

post-213863","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-1
["GET
